Let us take a journey into the magnificent Amazon Rainforest, located in the midst of South America. Today you are an Amazon Rainforest explorer. Dig deep into the Rainforest; discover the animals, plants, and cultures that live throughout the thick rainforest growth. Investigate three Amazon animals that you could save and build a home for in a local zoo if the rainforest were to disappear.
Imagine the three animals you choose to explore have a chance to be saved and placed in a zoo. Become familiar with the animals eating behaviors, diet, adaptations, living environment, and life cycle. As the rainforest disappears, it is your job as an explorer to save three animals and create appropriate living environments for the animals. Along the way, you will discover the rainforest plant growth and other amazing things that come from the rainforest. Become familiar with these living things, you will have to create a poster board presenting your findings. Beyond the understory lies the canopy of the rainforest. The canopy is the top of all the magnificent plant life. Trees in the rainforest can range from 50 to 200 feet tall. Visit some plant life in the canopy on the rainforest: Canopy
Above and beyond the canopy is the emergent tree's. The emergent trees are giant trees that are homes to multiple birds and insects.
You and your partner need to research the Amazon Rainforest through the internet. Along with all the animals, explore the plants, medicine that comes from the forest, and how to you can help save the rainforest.
Take out a piece of paper and answer the following questions to guide you along the way.
1. Where is the Amazon Rainforest located?
2. What are the layers of the rainforest?
3. What would life be like in you lived in the rainforest?
4. What type of plants can you eat or use for medicine?
5. What is the importants of the rainforest?
6. What is happening to the rainforest?
7. How can you help save the rainforest?
8. List some animals that live in each layer of the rainforest?
Along with these questions, keep track of the animals you want to research and different types of plants that humans can eat and use. Gather all the information you can find about your animals and other animals that you like. Remember to include what the animal eats, where it lives in the rainforest, life cycle, and the their behaviors!!!

This webquest was created as a project in the College of Education at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
It is a webquest for elementary students to become familiar with the rainforest and its importance over the internet. Students will visit multiple websites to familiarize themselves with multiple aspects of the Amazon Rainforest.
Students evaluated through a poster board creation of their choice. Students are to follow guidelines that lead them along the way as an explorer.
